NASCARネクステルカップ第30戦タラデガ決勝レースは、ジェフ・ゴードンが優勝。これでゴードンはジミー・ジョンソンを抜いてランキングトップに立った。2位ジョンソンとの差は9ポイント、3位以下はやや差が開いた。3位にはデイブ・ブレニーが入り、トヨタとしては初の3位となった。

ネクステルカップデビューを飾ったジャック・ビルニューブは、6番手スタートの予定だったが、チェイスドライバーに迷惑をかけたくないとして最後尾スタートを選択。132ラップに右フロントタイヤをウォールに接触させたが、145ラップ目のカイル・ブッシュ、マット・ケンセス、デニー・ハムリンなどが絡んだ大きなアクシデントをかわして、トップと同一周回の188ラップを完走、まずは無難にデビューレースを終えた。
