DTM:中年の星ベルント・シュナイダー、レースから引退

DTM、AMGメルセデス・チームのベルント・シュナイダー(ドイツ:44歳)は、今週末ホッケンハイムで行われるDTM最終戦を最後にレースから引退することを表明した。
シュナイダーの持つDTMとITCの226レースへの出走、43回の優勝、25回のポールポジションと59回のファステストラップという記録はもちろん他に並ぶものはない。その間、1995年、2000年、2001年、2003年、2006年と5回のチャンピオンに輝き(1995年はITCタイトルも獲得)、1997年にはやはりメルセデスのCLK GT-RでFIA-GTチャンピオンとなっている。
今後は、メルセデスのブランド大使として、またインストラクターとテストドライバーとしてメルセデスの高性能イメージを広げるために活動することになっている。
シュナイダーは1988年にはザクスピードF1チームで、日本の鈴木亜久里氏とチームメイトだったことでも知られている。
