■ジョンソン、今シーズン初勝利

NASCARスプリントカップ第8戦タラデガ・スーパースピードウェイでの決勝レースは、ジミー・ジョンソンが今シーズン初優勝、通算54勝目を挙げた。
レースはラストラップで7台の争いとなり、ヘンドリック・モータースポーツのチームメイト、デール・アンハートJr.のプッシュを受けたジョンソンがクリント・ボウヤを0.002秒の僅差で下した。この記録は1993年にNASCARに電子タイミングシステムが導入されて以来、2003年ダーリントンでのリッキー・クレーブンと並ぶもので、距離にして6cmというまさに鼻の差の勝利となった。
3位にはポールシッターのジェフ・ゴードン、4位にアンハートJr.、以下ケビン・ハービック、カール・エドワーズ、グレッグ・ビッフィル、マーク・マーチン、デビッド・ジリランド、ジョーイ・ロガーノまでがトップ10となった。
この結果、ランキングではエドワーズがトップを守ったが、ジョンソンが5ポイント差の2位に浮上、アンハートJr.も3位、ハービックが4位にランクアップしてきた。カイル・ブッシュは140ラップにジョー・ギブス・レーシングのチームメイト、ロガーノとの接触で35位に終わり、カート・ブッシュに次ぐ6位へと4ポジションダウンとなった。
NASCARスプリントカップ次戦は、1週おいて4月30日にリッチモンドで開催される。
